Lokus is a professional-grade knowledge engine. Unlike other apps that store your data in the “cloud,” Lokus keeps everything as simple text files on your own computer. It’s built with Rust for maximum speed and minimum memory usage.
When you first open Lokus, it will ask you to create or open a Vault.
Think of a Vault as a project folder. You can have one for “Personal,” one for “Work,” or one big “Life” vault.
Pro Tip: Because Lokus uses standard Markdown files, you can point it at an existing Obsidian folder and it will work instantly!
Lokus uses “Markdown,” a simple way to format text without taking your hands off the keyboard:
# Heading 1 (Main Title)
## Heading 2 (Sub-heading)
**Bold Text**
[[Link to Another Note]] — This is the “magic” of Lokus. Typing brackets lets you link ideas together like your own personal Wikipedia.
One of Lokus’s best features is the built-in Canvas.
Click the Canvas icon in the sidebar to open an infinite whiteboard.
You can drag your existing notes onto the board, draw arrows between them, and map out complex projects visually. It’s perfect for planning a business move or a home renovation.
You don’t need fancy plugins to stay organized.
Create a folder (e.g., “Client Projects”).
Click the Database View icon.
Now your notes are a table. You can add “Status” tags (In Progress, Done), “Dates,” or “Priority” levels just like a spreadsheet, but with the power of a notebook.
Click the Graph icon to see a 3D map of your thoughts. Every dot is a note, and every line is a link you’ve made. As your vault grows, you’ll start to see patterns and connections in your learning that you never noticed before.
