I’m playing a bit of catch-up this week! Life as a dad comes first, and between school runs and some quality Hytale time, the “Weekly” Spotlight turned into a “Monthly” one. But we’re back, and today we’re talking about a tool that has been a staple in my kit for over a decade: Audacity.
If you have an audio file that needs “fixing,” or if you’ve ever wanted to start a podcast, record a voiceover, or even just make a custom ringtone, this is the only tool you need.
Professional audio editing software like Adobe Audition or Ableton can cost hundreds of dollars a year. For most of us in South Bend—whether you’re a student, a hobbyist, or a small business owner—paying a monthly subscription just to trim a song or clean up some background noise is overkill.
Audacity is a free, open-source, multi-track audio editor. It’s famous for being incredibly powerful while remaining lightweight enough to run on almost any computer (even that old laptop in the back of your closet).
Podcasters: It’s the gold standard for recording and editing interviews.
Church/Community Groups: Great for cleaning up recordings of weekly services or meetings.
The “Digitizers”: If you’re converting old cassette tapes or vinyl to digital, this is the tool you use to split the tracks and remove the “hiss.”
